Productivity is not measured by the number of hours you sit at a desk. It is measured by how much you get done without wasting your time. May you get sick of hearing and reading about time management but, believe me, you should organize your time since it could be your best friend or you worst enemy. So be the master of your time and seize every single moment in order to achieve whether your personal or professional goals. Being productive at work, you will have the necessary time to tackle other personal issues. Here are some ways to get you be more productive.
Trying to handle everything will cause you frustration; consequently, you will fail to achieve the task or purpose itself; hence, start to delegate. Delegation is a very helpful aid for succession planning, personal development, seeking and encouraging promotion. For example, if you are a working mum and have daily many tasks to do, delegate someone to pull off the household duties.
Make a To Do list
Without this tip you can’t go anywhere! Start NOW and think of everything you need to do and WRITE it. Start by the easy tasks then tackle the complicated ones after. When you write your daily and monthly goals, you will feel more committed to them. Accordingly, being stick to your commitments will be much easier. To stay on top of tasks, you can create to-do lists and monitor their progress on your smart phone by using Google Tasks.
Don’t be shy and say NO. Maybe it’s a very hard word but, whether it’s work or family, say it yet without being rude to anyone. Make it short like “I am sorry. I can’t” or “I don’t think I’ll have time”. Also, have eye contact with the person whom is asking for the favor. If you are keeping say “Yes” you will find yourself, at the end of the road, wasting your time in working to achieve others’ goals not yours.
Multitask is a major mistake that most of us make, thinking that doing many tasks at the same time is a key advantage; however, multitasking could subdue your creative thinking skills. Therefore, try to focus on what you are doing especially when you are tackling high values tasks.
Be Prepared the Night Before
Spend a few minutes every night before going to bed to set your next day’s five top priorities and write them. In addition, decide your week wardrobe every Saturday night. If you are a wife, fix the week menu on your weekend, prepare some food and put it in the freezer. And if you are a mum, prepare everything your kids will need next morning the night before. In that way, you will use your time efficiently by clearly defining your priorities.
Use your Prime Time
Identify the chunk of time during which you are at your most productive. For instance, if you prefer working in early morning, use this time to take on your most challenging and important tasks.
Have a Break
Being productive doesn’t mean continuously working to attain all your personal and professional goals. Try to get a break every 90 minutes by having coffee with your colleague, listening to nice music, going on a daily walk or doing some stretches; by doing so, you will feel refreshed and get the energy needed to resume your tasks.
Get rid of distractions
All of us spend many hours checking emails, Facebook, twitter, etc…. Stop it immediately. Devote only two hours daily to emails and social media. Practice not answering the phone just because it’s ringing and e-mails just because they show up unless it’s absolutely crucial in your business to do so. Furthermore, stop watching too much TV. Many people spend long hours watching Talk shows and movies. This is not good for your health or your productivity, so chose just one TV program or one series to watch.
Every time you accomplish a goal, reward yourself by getting your favorite food, buying an expensive pair of shoes or a bag…etc This step gives you the impression that you are on the right track in addition to give you the motivation needed to go further.
Although these tips are not difficult, they need determination and persistence. Everything depends on you; if you want to achieve your goals just follow these steps because doing so, you will have enough time to spend with your family and friends. I assure you that everything will change. Just give it a try.
